William Penaluna

William Penaluna (1937-2025) was a Cornish metalworker who transformed a lifetime of precision welding into a refined and quietly authoritative sculptural practice. Widely regarded as one of the foremost aeronautical welders in the South of England, in later life he turned his full attention to his sculpture, working closely with Devonshire sculptor Paul Mount on the realisation of stainless steel works, which deepened his sculptural sensibility. Following his retirement to the Charente region of France, he continued his practise for 20 years, producing a small, considered body of work distinguished by exceptional craftsmanship and a sense of form that occupies the space between the geometric and organic, within which the integrity of the material and skill of making are foremost.
