Andrew Holmes

Andrew Holmes is a figurative painter based in London. After studying in Cornwall, Andrew moved to London where he worked as a freelance illustrator until 2008 when he returned to painting. His practice revolves around figurative painting and aesthetic judgement, and his curiosity in aesthetic appreciation began with painting the types of food that we often associate with sensory stimulation. He enjoys playing with these still life works to examine our relationship with certain foods, as a metaphor for temptation and desire. Andrew’s landscapes are stylistically influenced by Modernism and the development of contemporary painting. Working from sketches or photographs, each piece describes his personal experience of that place.
