Kate Lord studied Photographic Arts at the University of Westminster and followed her interest in the visual arts with a career as a TV Director. Now producing functional high fired stoneware in West London, using a variety of glazes slips and oxides: her work is inspired by the elements of water and earth. She is a keen wild swimmer and finds inspiration from both water itself and the plants that live within it. Mother Nature is a key inspiration from inception through to the finish that she carefully selects to complement each piece. “I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of “the primordial soup” and working with clay is a metaphor for that. There is something magical about conjuring forth an expression of an idea from the sludge of an ancient river bed and making it manifest physically.”
