Featuring work by local artists as well as those UK wide and even some over the channel. Introducing new talents such as sculptor William Penluna, whose highly polished reflective steel sculptures capture the light and vibrancy of their surroundings, alongside gallery favourites Jennifer Greenland, whose paintings of Wimbledon are always sought after and Nigel Sharman, whose works range from stylised coastscapes through city studies and nudes. Back after an absence from the gallery is the wonderful Andrew Holmes, a painter mildly obsessed with food whose brush summons the delicious plumpess of a Victoria sponge and the steaming temptation of a portion of chips, alongside striking studies of St Ives and Cornwall. The flattened perspective and vibrant colours of Emma Williams are like summer bottled - straight from her studio in St Ives - whilst the soft and evocative brushwork of Susannah Phillips summons the seas, skies and greenery of our beautiful British landscape. Christine Brunnock and Dawn Reader span two sides of sea painting; the former focussing on the energy and kinetic movement of the ocean - alive with currents and spray - the latter adoring the calm, smooth seas of the early morning and sunset and the translucency of a softly breaking wave. Sisters Beatrice and Flora Forshall are young masters of the mediums of drypoint engraving and screenprinting respecively, offering wonders such as handpainted Javan green magpies and scarlet malachite beetles, marvellously rendered flat fish, rams and bulls bursting with energy both within the dynamic lines and colours.
A show studded with delights of all types and mediums across the board...
