Jane was born in Stoke-on-Trent and she has lived in a variety of locations including Edinburgh, the Scottish Borders, Manchester, Leicester and York. She now lives in Fife and her studio looks across the Firth of Forth over to Edinburgh.
She travels widely and sketches on location, experimenting with drawing and painting using mixed media in response to the landscape, the coast, garden spaces and architecture. Her BA [Hons] in Textile Design background is evident in her decorative approach to organising shape, colour and texture particulary in her still life and garden works.
Working outside has been liberating and this is reflected in her approach to handling paint, exploring the physical quality of the medium with an emphasis on exploring colour, texture and light to evoke the character and mood of a specific place. Back in the studio she works on a range of surfaces referencing sketchbooks, photographs and memory; using mixed media including gouache, coloured pencils, inks, watercolours, collage, acrylic and oils.
She graduated from Manchester Polytechnic thirty-one years ago with a BA [Hons] in Printed Textiles and she has worked as a freelance textile designer producing collections of furnishings and giftware. She has taught and inspired many university students for thirty years and combined this with a career in painting for the last twelve years.
Jane’s original paintings have been exhibited in galleries and hospitals throughout the UK and her paintings have also been licensed worldwide.
