Gary Long is a figurative painter who is invloved in the making of images concerned with the coast, sea, sky, weather and the impressions they leave.
Born in Birmingham in 1945, Gary studied at Birmingham School of Art and Manchester School of Art at the School of Advanced Study. He spent many years as an illustrator working for international clients in advertising and publishing in the UK and North America, and over the past 25 years has exhibited paintings in galleries in the UK, North America and Canada.
Gary was commissioned to paint six works for the cruise liner Queen Mary II, and was a feature painter on BBC Countryfile, which showcased his work alongside that of Barbara Hepworth, Patrick Heron and Kurt Jackson. His works are held in many private collections in the UK and overseas.
He also works as a drawing tutor, and a part time tutor at University College Falmouth, St Ives School of Painting and The Verrocchio Art Centre in Tuscany.
